Tale of a Tall Boy

Tale of a Tall Boy

This is a comic strip designed as part of an exam at the Srishti Institute of Art, Design, and Technology. The brief for the project was to come up with a piece of communication that would help dispel myths associated with the then-recent verdict regarding Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalized sexual activities that were "against the order of nature". On 6 September 2018, the Supreme Court of India ruled that the application of Section 377 to consensual homosexual sex between adults was unconstitutional, "irrational, indefensible and manifestly arbitrary".

I chose science as a means to dispel prejudice associated with homosexuality, more specifically, targeting the mindset that believes homosexuality can be "cured", or that it is a choice. The media, or the material that most people have access to, focused primarily on "love is love", and everybody is equal, but did not address why, which became the foundation for the comic. To that end, I researched material that journals had published over the years, regarding homosexuality and genetics. Through this comic, I try to explain the why behind these statements.
